Week 13 Major

  1. Using the outlines you created in GA 7 and class discussions, begin drafting your MA 4 paper. Focus on first developing the body paragraphs. Each body paragraph should start with the claim sentence introducing an element from GA 7, and then you should discuss your analysis of that element, using the examples from GA 7 as well.
  2. You will, of course, want to add to the summary, paraphrasing, or quoting you provide as you develop the paragraphs of your essay for MA 4. Keep in mind that your reader cannot read your mind, so you need to be very clear in your thinking and connections. If you give an example to illustrate the theme of innocence, for example, you then need to tell the reader exactly how that example illustrates the theme of innocence, even if it seems obvious.
  3. For this assignment, you need to develop at least the three body paragraphs exploring the themes, though you may find you need more. As you write, don’t separate versions into different sections of your essay. You should, instead, offer “point by point comparison and contrast” between the two, exploring how the different versions showcase the element.
  4. Briefly identify and discuss one counterargument that goes against one point of your argument. Normally, this might come at the end of a body paragraph, or you might present this in its own paragraph. Use evidence from one of the primary texts to refute the counterclaim.
  5. Include research from at least two academic journals to supplement your ideas. This research should be integrated within the body paragraphs rather than as a single paragraph appearing late in the paper. That is, you should use some secondary support to help supplement each separate theme discussed throughout the paper.
  6. Since this will ultimately serve as your rough draft for the assignment, you should also include your working thesis at the beginning of the essay. You can also try to develop the introduction and conclusion paragraphs as appropriate.
  7. Use MLA in-text citations accordingly, and include an MLA Works Cited.
