Objective

Instructions

Watch the following scenes from an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine titled “Moo Moo.” Feel free to look up the entire episode, but this clip puts together the story that is your raw data.

  • Apply the stages of the perception process to the scene where Terry is arrested. Go stage-by-stage to detail what the officer was perceiving.
  • How does Personality Theory potentially explain the officer’s perceptual biases towards black men?
  • Based on our discussion of perception, what suggestions would you give the officer to help improve his on-duty actions.

Write a minimum of 200 words (1 page, double-spaced 12 pt Times New Roman font).

Scholar Activity #6: Observing Nonverbals (20 pts)

Objective

Observe and identify a minimum of 5 nonverbal elements in a communication situation.

Instructions

  • Observe an interaction between two or more people.
  • Identify and describe the nonverbal elements that you observe.
  • Be discreet, casual, and patient. Do not blatantly stare at the subjects as that will make them self-conscious and it will change the communication.
  • Do not listen to or note their conversation. Only note what your senses take in.
  • Then answer the following questions. 1) What do you perceive the relationship between the participants to be? What nonverbals support this? 2) Identify two of the participants. What do you perceive their personalities to be like?     Objective

    • To apply the 6 stages of a relationship to a real-life or fictional scenario

    Instructions

    1) Analyze a relationship that you believe has passed through all stages of a relationship. Select data from one of the following options:

    1. The relationship can be personal (one you went through)
    2. Witnessed (you watched others that you know go through)
    3. Or fictional (from television, film, literature)

    2) Provide a detailed context of the relationship. Be sure to include what type of relationship it is (friend/family or love).
