The research proposal assignment includes a written research proposal for a hypothetical study.

The research proposal is based on a plan of study of a research question, chosen by you.

You do not need to do an actual study or have actual measures and results. Your study

design must be original. Proposals that duplicate previously conducted research will not

be accepted. The research proposal must be based on a single research question, not a question with

multiple sub-questions or a multi-questions study.

Written Research Proposal

The following outline is the format and content required in the written research proposal. Three

(3) main headings (Introduction, Methods, and References) must be used. The research proposal

must be between 3-5 pages total. Subheadings can be used but are not necessary.

Title Page Include the title of your study, course name and number, your name with

degrees/credentials

Introduction Include the following content:

Topic, Problem and Review of the Literature: 1 or more pages (no

less), single spaced with a double space between paragraphs; a

minimum of 5 references must be used; references must come from

scientific journals. Use narrative style, not an outline.

Purpose of the study: 1 or 2 sentences

Research question: 1 sentence

Hypothesis: 1 sentence

Methods Include the following content:

Description of participants, inclusion and exclusion criteria,

recruitment strategy

Methods of sampling and sample size

IRB approval: specify if needed or not, and what type (e.g.,

expedited)

Research design: type of design

Method of measurement: specify variables measured and how

Methods of data analysis: specify variables analyzed and methods

References Format must be JAMA style
