Organizational development (OD) interventions are generally described as planned change processes that take into account both technical and human psychology aspects of the organization. Interventions are defined in your readings/resources within four categories: human process interventions, techno-structural interventions, human resource management (HRM) interventions, and strategic change interventions.

For this multi-part assignment, you will act as an external OD consultant for an organization. As the OD consultant, describe and analyze an organizational problem and recommend an organizational development strategy. Additionally, provide your rationale as to why you think this approach will help. This will require a practitioner analysis of the organizational problem of interest to you and an academic literature review of similar organization problems and organizational development strategies that you believe will be most beneficial in solving the problem. Lastly, you will provide an evaluation plan for the proposed intervention.

Procedures: Select and interview a significant (management position) individual (preferably, but not required, an OD/HR professional) in the organization who can share insights into its organizational development practices. Query the individual about:

  • Organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT)
  • OD issues and challenges in the organization and its relationship to business outcomes
  • Recommended improvements that can be addressed through OD interventions

Get in-depth details that will help you diagnose an organizational problem and propose an effective OD intervention. The concepts, theories, and practices you read from the textbook will help in formulating your questions.

For this activity, you will:

Week 2- Identify & submit an individual at an organization of your choosing (for-profit or non-profit). You should contact the individual to set up a date/time for an interview (Note: You may not interview a family member). Submit this information, along with the organization’s mission statement, vision statement, and values (if available). You will also submit at least ten proposed interview questions. The questions should be informed by your research and be written to allow you to answer the questions necessary for the Report and Kaltura Presentation. A worksheet is provided for your submission.
