Objectives of the Assessment

The assessment has been set to facilitate the development of critical understandingof the different perspectives, underpinning concepts, methodologies and techniquesinvolved in leading and managing teams to deliver successful projects.
The assessment for this module consists of:

1. A seminar presentation (30%) – You will be working in a group of THREE todevelop and submit this presentation.

You are tasked with selecting three concepts from the concepts considered in thismodule. Refer to the module handbook (e.g Communication, Conflict, Leadership,Motivation, Organizational Structures, Organizational Culture, Management ofInnovation, Conflict Resolution, and Emotional Intelligence, etc.) Your objective is tocritically evaluate these concepts, presenting contrasting views from the literatureand formulating a justified stance on their application in leading and managing teamsto deliver successful projects in this current era of project management.

Concept Selection and Literature Review

  • Choose three concepts that you find most compelling and pertinent to theleadership and management of project teams.
  • Conduct an extensive review of recent and seminal literature on theseconcepts, focusing on identifying contrasting viewpoints, underpinning theories,and empirical findings.Critical Analysis
  • Critically assess the various perspectives, theories, and methodologies relatedto your selected concepts. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each,considering their applicability and effectiveness in different project contexts.
  • Examine how these concepts interrelate and their collective impact on teamdynamics and project outcomes, highlighting areas of debate and consensusamong scholars.Synthesis and Argument Development

  • Synthesize your critical analysis to construct a coherent argument regardingthe optimal approaches to leadership and team development for projectsuccess.
  • Justify your stance by integrating evidence from the literature with practicalconsiderations, such as project type, team composition, and organizationalenvironment.Presentation Guidelines
  1. A 10-minute group pre-recorded presentation. Your presentation shouldinclude an introduction to each of the chosen concepts, a critical examinationof contrasting views, and a conclusive section presenting your argument onthe most effective strategies and practices. Maximum of 10 pages of slidesexcluding the cover page and references.
  2. The presentation should be a power point with the relevant media (video orvoice) embedded into the power point.
  3. Utilize clear, engaging visuals to support your points and facilitate audienceunderstanding. Focus on clear, concise communication, maintaining a logicalflow of ideas.

Comprehensiveness of Literature Review (30%): Demonstrates a thoroughengagement with a wide range of academic sources, reflecting a deep understandingof the selected concepts.
Depth of Critical Analysis (30%): Evidences the ability to critically evaluate diverseperspectives, theories, and methodologies, presenting a balanced and insightfulexamination of the literature.

Coherence and Justification of Argument (30%): Articulates a well-reasonedargument regarding effective leadership and team development practices, supportedby a synthesis of literature and practical implications.
Quality of Presentation (10%): Showcases professional presentation skills, includingeffective visual aids, clear and engaging communication.
