After Sandy Smith, the bakery owner, read the report with your vision of the monitoring system to improve the service to the customers of their small family-owned bakery, she met with you to decide what process variables could be used to start monitoring the bakery processes performance. The owner and you initially decided to monitor the following variables:

  • Number of units produced daily
  • Number of defective units produced daily

The owner provides you data that the bakery has collected on these variables during the past months.

Your second assignment is to do a detailed statistical analysis of the data to be able to decide later what would be appropriate control charts to monitor these variables.

Present a report to the bakery owner with the results of the statistical analysis of the data and your conclusions on the variables that will be used to monitor the bakery processes performance.

Submit the report as a memo that you are sending to the owner as the consultant for the small family-owned bakery.
