Did you know that orphan infants were “borrowed” by Cornell University at the turn of the 1900s and used in Home Economics college classes? This is one of my favorite articles of all time. Today we know that infants form bonds with their caretakers in the first year of life. But this was not understood in the early 1900s when the major view in psychology was based in behaviorism. In fact, our understanding of attachment bonds didn’t deep until the 1960’s.
